The Renfrew Bridge forms a key element of the £117 million Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside programme, providing a new active travel and transport link between Renfrew, Yoker and Clydebank.
The 184-metre twin-leaf opening bridge was completed and opened to the public in May 2025, creating the first new crossing of the River Clyde in the area for generations and improving access to employment, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities across the wider city region.
HBPW was responsible for the design of a range of temporary works and marine engineering solutions that enabled the construction of the bridge and its associated infrastructure. Delivered during 2023 and 2024, these works included cofferdams to facilitate the construction of the bridge piers and motor rooms, together with temporary foundations, support structures and access arrangements required for the offloading, assembly and installation of the bridge's two main deck sections.
Working closely with GRAHAM and the wider project team, HBPW's designs supported the safe and efficient construction of the bridge within the challenging tidal environment of the River Clyde. The successful installation of the bridge sections in 2024 represented a major milestone in the delivery of one of Scotland's most significant infrastructure projects.
The project was funded through the Glasgow City Region City Deal, a £1.13 billion investment programme delivered in partnership between the UK Government, Scottish Government and local authorities to support long-term economic growth, investment and regional connectivity.
