Who we are
HBPW is a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy specialising in Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. With offices in Retford and Sheffield, we deliver projects nationwide, offering expert engineering design services and professional management services across a wide range of sectors.
We are a well-established and trusted provider of engineering solutions, working closely with clients from initial feasibility and concept design through to project delivery and operational support. Our strength lies in our proactive, collaborative approach – particularly within Design and Build environments – where we support developers, contractors, and clients in achieving cost-effective, practical outcomes at from tender stage, through construction to project completion.
We believe early-stage consultation and coordination are key to delivering value. By engaging early, we help shape buildable, innovative, and reliable solutions that align with site constraints and construction methods.
With a team of highly qualified professionals, including Chartered Engineers, we often act as Lead Designer, offering fully integrated, multidisciplinary design services. Where specialist expertise is required other than our own, we manage a trusted network of supply chain partners to ensure seamless coordination across both Permanent and Temporary Works.
Our history
Founded in September 2001 in Retford, Nottinghamshire, HBPW has grown to become one of the UK’s leading civil and structural engineering consultancies. Built on a foundation of technical excellence and a dedicated team of experienced professionals, the company has expanded its reach with the opening of a second office in Sheffield in 2024.
From the outset, HBPW has delivered innovative, high-quality engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors. Our rapid growth and strong reputation are the result of a commitment to client service, practical design, and collaborative working. Over the years, we’ve successfully delivered projects for major clients including BAM UK & Ireland, Associated British Ports, Network Rail, and many others.
Today, HBPW continues to build on its legacy – combining deep industry knowledge with a forward-thinking approach to engineering that ensures we remain at the forefront of the profession.
