Project: Oasis Academy - Wintringham

When Clugston Construction were asked to submit a design and build tender for a new flagship Academy at the site of the existing Wintringham School in Grimsby they turned to HBPW Consulting Ltd to help them with the tender design.

HBPW Consulting used all their invested and accumulated knowledge to provide an overall holistic design which optimised the cost of construction. The benefits of reinforced masonry design were used for example to minimise the amount of secondary steelwork required and to greatly simplify construction.

The benefits of the formal Staff Continuous Professional Development policy implemented by HBPW Consulting was amply demonstrated by the detailed understanding of the background to BS6599 Part 2 (Wind Loading) which was obtained by our staff when attending external courses. The knowledge allowed optimisation of the structure to reduce construction costs.

HBPW Consulting\'s repeated use of plastic design of structural steelwork was again brought to the fore to reduce structural steelwork weights.

HBPW Consulting also designed and detailed external works and a drainage system that included storm water attenuation all to the approval of the Local Water Authority and the Environment Agency.

HBPW Consulting worked very closely with Clugston Construction, the Architect Watson Batty and the Building Services Designers throughout the tender period to provide an integrated design for the £18million scheme.

As a result of all the tender work by HBPW Consulting and the other professionals Clugstons were awarded the Contract to build the Academy.

The Contract design work for HBPW Consulting Ltd was spearheaded by Emyr Parry who has been with HBPW Consulting Ltd since he graduated from Leeds University and has become an indispensable part of the team.

The project will be completed and the new Academy open from January 2009.
